I had a swimming pool, concrete deck and retaining wall built by owner Jerry Bouchet in 2005. This was the worst construction experience I have ever had. It took about 10 months. Bouchet gave me the lowest bid and in retrospect I should have hired a company with a bid that would accommodate any extra cost that may have been incurred. Bouchet used a couple of day laborers which, by Bouchet's own admission, he picked up off the street. When the retaining wall was determined to be substandard by the city inspector and had to be torn down, this left Bouchet with limited funds. In fact, he informed me that he ran out of money and had to wait for money to be collected from other jobs. The wall was eventually built after I supervised the day laborers and held Bouchet by the hand because he was ignorant of city guidelines. By the way, the one and only day laborer that was left behind disappeared for three days. When he showed up, he informed me that he had been arrested for drunk driving and fleeing from the Pomona Police Department. You pay for what you get!
After the pool was dug and gunite was applied, I was disgusted to find human feces in my pool. Moreover, when I discovered that the pool tiles were crooked because the day laborer was not using spacers, I had to get a Spanish-speaking neighbor to interpret my instructions to him because Bouchet was nowhere to be found. When we finally had the cement poured for the deck, it was discolored. We could not even get it stained later because the concrete sub-contractor used some type of curing agent which was resistant to any stain or sealer. Other concrete professionals later examined the work and tried to improve the coloring on our deck. A representative from Concrete Art said, "This is the worst I've ever worked with." So, in the end the project was completed after 10 months and after I retained an attorney and threatened to sue Brothers Custom Pools.
BOTTOM LINE: Never use a small pool contractor that is the lowest bidder and never use Brothers Custom Pools. Bouchet is an incompetent businessman and a negligent contractor. Anyone is free to contact me and I'll state the honest truth.
