Worst Move EVER!
On Nov.13, 2017 MidWest Movers sent s sub-contractor Tops Moving to pick-up our shipment to Ave Maria, FL. Moving crew of three men scheduled for 8 am showed up at 3pm. Surveyed the load and informed owner that the truck they had brought would not hold the entire load. After discussing this with the owner, decision was made to load furniture first then designated boxes, which would be pre-staged in driveway behind truck. After listing, with stickers, all items in the home loading commenced. Supervisor worked on paper work in the house and tried to watch the load. He also wrapped large pictures and 2 boxes of glassware. Load seemed to be going well. Most of the furniture was loaded then boxes were loaded until truck was full. ALL of the boxes pre-staged in the driveway were not loaded. At some point the loader moving boxes from house to the driveway put the boxes on the truck. The "supposed to go" boxes didn't make the shipment . They are still in Illinois. The loading was finished at 11pm. and was to be taken to Mid-West in Glendale Heights for storage to be shipped after 11/20/2017. On Dec. 1 a moving crew from MidWestmovers, or a sub-contracted crew from Tops Moving, called wanting to deliver their load/shipment . They called at 8pm EST from Daytona Beach which is at least two hours from Ave Maria, FL and our home. This meant they could not deliver at that time of night and were told to be at the home at 8am on Saturday morning. They were not happy as they wanted to go home to MIAMI. They showed between 7 and 8am ready to unload. The unloading supervisor informed the owner that his plan was to put EVERYTHING in the garage. Totally not in compliance with our contract or the owners wishes. The furniture was to be put in the home, dirt and all, and assembled. After seeing the "filthy dirty" condition of the boxes the owner relented to putting the boxes in the garage. Boxes were also smashed and torn. Where this shipment was held in storage is anyones guess. We have had to wash everything that was IN the boxes. Storage area must have been damp as some items were beginning to mold. To make things even worse most furniture items were scratched and/or broken. Someone new items were broken and had attempted to nail and glue the legs back on. The lazy boy platform was broken so badly they didn't even attempt to repair it. Teak chair leg was held on by a nail. Pictures of all damaged items are available. During the unloading process the movers DID NOT use shoe covers, left cigarette butts all over the yard, argued with each other who was to do what. This resulted in furniture being improperly carried, banged into walls, and scratched. The walls they encountered had to be patched and painted. Pictures also available. This was a new home before these movers got here. What I thought was a reasonable price for moving turned out to be a "wild guess", over the phone, by a MidWest movers Senior Relocation Specialist. I learned from this NEVER rely on an over the phone estimate. DEMAND an ONSITE estimator and a guarantee, NO ADD-ONS for stairs, distance to carry items, etc.ALWAYS take on ADDED insurance. 60 cents a pound covers nothing if broken like our chairs, antique cedar chest, paper storage cabinet, etc. DO NOT sign any review sheets, "How did we do?" Forms, etc. UNTIL you see the results AFTER unloading! This owner has had many moves while being in the military and NONE of them ended up like this move. DO NOT do business with MidWestmovers from Glendale Heights, IL.
