Recently, I received a text message from a manager in the service department at Quality Toyota Corona. The text was not in regards to my car, but for his own personal attempt to contact me. I did not give him my number to call me, nor did I insinuate any interest in him. He used my records to retrieve my phone number for his personal use. I find this not only disturbing in a sense that this is invading my privacy, but it is also very unethical. This is also not the first time I’ve experienced “service” similar to this from Quality Toyota. Once one of the managers was staring at my chest the entire time I was speaking with him. I do not wear revealing clothing and I don’t make attempts to flirt with these people so I find it difficult to understand how I am getting this unwanted attention.
If I am not being mentally undressed by these men, I am not treated as an equal. I was waiting to be assisted by a manager on duty. He was busy casually talking with one of his friends about his plans for the weekend. He completely disregarded me, even though I asked him for his assistance. Not only did I have to wait 15 minutes for him to finish talking with his friend, but he helped a man that came after me before he even made an attempt to talk with me about my car problems. It’s understood that when you do not appreciate the services that are provided by a certain company, simply stop going there, but why should I inconvenience myself when this is an easily mediated issue. I hope that this complaint can be used to make the service managers aware of their chauvinistic acts and take their jobs more seriously.
