As sad it sounds, I’ve come to the realization that if you’ve done what you’ve always been doing, you’ll get what you always gotten.
I’ve worked for a company for I don’t know how long, done the same grind, and don’t have much to show for it. My life’s goals were not compatible with my cubicle. I want to take vacations to places I want to go. Not just one of those once-in-a-lifetime, I’m breaking the bank to go on this vacation, but the ones I can take where I can go and visit anytime I wanted to.
Management wasn’t in the cards for me at my previous jobs, either because of lack of experience or corporate politics. I answered the ad which I was a bit skeptical: Looking for entry level management positions, no experience necessary, will train. I picked up the phone and was surprised that the receptionist booked me for an interview without much of a fight. Normally I’d have to twist a receptionist arm to get me an interview, talk to human resources, etc.
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if this was for me. The business model was unorthodox, but something told me to take a chance. Obviously what I was doing before wasn’t getting the results that I wanted; time to make a change. They were going to train me how to run my own business from all aspects, from the marketing of their product, to the administrative and accounting work. What they needed from me were some basic traits: a strong work ethic, able to push myself, and humility.
The business, while run a little different, in the end offers the benefits of running your own business without many of the pitfalls, such as no need for direct capital investment. The people that I'm with are genuinely excited about where they're going, instead of dreading the next day. You’ll still have to work hard no matter what, and be willing to accept that the path to true wealth is one that may seem odd, but the growth potential isn’t.
